AEM offers brass absolute pressure sensors (PSIa) in various pressure ranges including 30 psi (2 bar), 50 psi (3.5 bar), and 75 psi (5 bar). Unlike gauge pressure sensors (PSIg) that measure pressure relative to ambient pressure, PSIa sensors measure pressure relative to a perfect vacuum (absolute zero).
Because PSIa sensors can measure negative pressure (vacuum), they are commonly used for applications like reading manifold pressure. At sea level, a PSIa sensor will read approximately 14.7 psi when exposed to atmospheric pressure. However, they can be recalibrated to display zero at atmospheric pressure and negative values for vacuum.
The choice between a brass and stainless steel sensor depends on the application's pressure accuracy requirements. Similar to the difference between a ruler and a caliper for measuring distance, brass sensors provide a good reference point for pressure readings, while stainless steel sensors offer superior precision. Brass sensors are suitable for applications where a general idea of pressure is sufficient, such as with a boost gauge. In contrast, stainless steel sensors are more appropriate for critical applications requiring precise pressure data, such as providing information to the Engine Control Unit (ECU) via a Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor.
Features:
• Brass sensors accurate to within 3% of full scale (pressure sensors)
• High-quality sealed sensor housings are virtually impervious to automotive fluids (360-degree welded wetted area)
• Connector and pins included
