Oil Separators

An oil separator for car engines is designed to capture oil mist and vapor from the crankcase ventilation system before it can re-enter the intake. Over time, this oily residue can coat intake valves, reduce combustion efficiency, and contribute to carbon buildup, especially in direct-injection engines. Installing an air oil separator helps reduce this contamination by separating oil particles from the air being recirculated into the intake.

These systems typically include a chamber that uses baffles or filter media to trap oil droplets, allowing cleaner air to continue through the engine. Some designs also function as oil/water separators, filtering out moisture that accumulates in the crankcase ventilation system, especially in colder climates or during short trips.

One widely used option is the J&L oil separator, known for its easy installation and durable construction. Whether you're driving a performance car or a daily commuter, an oil separator can help preserve engine performance, reduce maintenance issues, and prolong the life of intake components.

In general, oil separators are a practical upgrade for vehicles where oil blow-by is a known issue, and they’re particularly beneficial in turbocharged or high-mileage engines.
