A coolant bypass kit also known as cooler bypass kit, is designed to improve the efficiency and reliability of an engine’s cooling system by redirecting coolant flow away from high-restriction factory pathways. These kits help maintain stable operating temperatures, reduce thermal stress on engine components, and support better heat dissipation—especially under load or in high-performance applications.

In vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, such as GM’s 6-speed, a cooler bypass kit 6L80 eliminates the factory bypass valve that can restrict fluid flow to the transmission cooler. This ensures that transmission fluid continuously cycles through the cooler, reducing operating temperatures and helping extend transmission life.

For diesel engines, options like the 6.0 Powerstroke oil cooler bypass kit and the 6.7 Cummins coolant bypass kit address common weak points in the stock cooling systems. On the 6.0L Powerstroke, bypass kits provide a secondary coolant path to protect the oil cooler and prevent clogging due to sediment buildup.
