POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating is a high-performance coating designed to permanently stop rust on prepped or seasoned metal surfaces. It forms a non-porous, dense layer that shields the metal from water, chemicals, salt, and other corrosive elements. Unlike regular paints that dry through evaporation, POR-15 cures faster in moist environments. This unique chemistry combined with its exceptional hardness, toughness, and flexibility makes POR-15 an exceptionally durable rust preventative coating.
SURFACE PREPARATION: All surfaces must be clean and free of all dirt, loose rust, oil, grease, wax, soap, loose paint, and any other matter.
Previously Painted Areas: Scuff surface with 180-220 grit sandpaper or scuff pad. Use POR-15® Cleaner Degreaser and POR-15® Metal Prep. Let the surface dry thoroughly and apply two thin coats.
Bare Steel or Aluminum: Scuff surface with 180-220 grit sandpaper or scuff pad. Use POR-15® Cleaner Degreaser and POR-15® Metal Prep, then let dry thoroughly and apply three thin coats.
For Superior Corrosion Protection:Apply POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating to bare metal after POR-15® Cleaner Degreaser and POR-15® Metal Prep applications. Then apply two thin covering coats of POR-15® Top Coat over the POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating.
AEROSOL APPLICATION:
Protect surrounding areas from spray mist. If being used to topcoat POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating, spray while POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating is dry to the touch but slightly tacky with a finger drag, normally 2 – 6 hours. If POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating has dried, wait 24 hours then lightly sand or scuff surface with pad or 220-320 sand paper. For best results, use when surface to be painted, spray can, and outside temperature, are between 60˚F and 90˚F (21˚C and 32˚C). Shake can at least one minute before and occasionally during use. Spray surface with steady, even strokes at a distance of 6 to 10 inches. Several light coats give a better finish than one heavy coat.
DRY TIME: It cures to touch in 30-60 minutes. Second coat can be applied in 1-24 hours, depending on ambient temperature and humidity. POR-15® Top Coat can take 3-4 days to reach max hardness, and longer in temperatures below 55°F (15°C).
CLEANUP: To prevent clogs in spray nozzle, hold can upside down and spray until clear gas appears. Completely empty cans may be recycled or disposed of with regular trash. Dispose of partially empty cans responsibly. DO NOT puncture, incinerate or compact.
