POR-15 Engine Enamel is a high-temperature paint designed for application on engine components. The formulation boasts superior coverage and color depth compared to other engine paints. Pigment-rich, the paint offers extended durability and minimal atmospheric solvent release. When used in conjunction with the Stop Rust System as a primer, POR-15 Engine Enamel provides a permanent rust-protective layer.
The non-flammable enamel withstands temperatures up to 300°F without discoloration and complies with strict California environmental regulations. This brush-on paint can also be sprayed using an HVLP system with proper safety precautions. For spraying applications, POR-15 Reducer solvent can be added up to 5% for thinning purposes.
Beyond engine blocks, POR-15 Engine Enamel can be used on air cleaner assemblies, pulleys, brackets, balancers, and other components requiring a top coat. For extreme temperatures exceeding 300°F, POR-15 High Temp DTM paint is recommended.
Bare Steel: Remove grease, oil, and other foreign substances with water based POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser then rinse with water. If surface was previously painted, sand with 320 grit sandpaper or a POR-15 Scuff Pad then apply POR-15 Engine Enamel. If surface is bare or rusted metal you must use POR-15 Metal Prep to prepare surface before painting. Spray or brush POR-15 Metal Prep onto surface and keep wet for 10-20 minutes then rinse thoroughly with water. For best results, next apply one coat of POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating. When POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating is dry to the touch with slight finger drag (approximately 2 to 6 hours) apply POR-15 Engine Enamel directly over POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating.
Apply in well-ventilated area only. Ideal ambient temperature for application is 70°F, but an acceptable temperature range is between 50-80°F. Mix POR-15 Engine Enamel by stirring only. Do not shake. POR-15 Engine Enamel can usually be brushed without thinning. A full coat will usually cover but if a second coat is needed, apply when first coat is dry to the touch (no finger drag) and within 24 hours of first coat.
Dry Time: Wait 4-6 days before starting engine.
Previously Finished or Primed Surfaces: Glossy surfaces should be roughened with 320 grit before recoating. All blistered and loose paint must be removed. Using POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser to ensure that the surface is clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, dirt, salts, and any other contaminants.
