K&N air filter assemblies utilize a surgical cotton fabric element soaked in oil as their tack barrier, which is sandwiched between layers of aluminum screen wire. The square holes in the cotton capture and straighten tumbling air, resulting in improved airflow due to the faster movement of air in a straight line.
