The AWE Tuning exhaust system for the MK6 GTI is constructed from mandrel bent T304 stainless steel with a wall thickness of 0.065 inches. It features multiple slip joints to facilitate installation and delivers a distinct exhaust note. The Cat-Back system concludes with 102mm diamond black slash-cut tips. This performance exhaust maintains compatibility with the stock downpipe, preserving the emissions equipment. AWE opted for a 2.5-inch diameter tubing as opposed to a 3.0-inch diameter one after finding that the larger size hindered torque at lower RPMs with minimal performance gains at higher RPMs.
